Alisa, who by day is a Registered Sales Assistant with Wachovia Securities, began beading with Kathy whenever she’d visit Arizona. More and more, each trip became about getting that “beading time” in where the creative spirit flourished and, given the long term friendship, ALL the problems of the world were solved. Kathy, co-owner of Flex Guard Products, Inc. with her husband, Dennis, had picked up the beading habit earlier on as a source of relaxation. Who could predict the creative vein Alisa and Kathy would strike and how it would evolve.
The first time Alisa picked up a bead, she proclaimed, “We should start a business!!” Kathy suggested she give it a year, and if she was still as passionate about beading, they would consider starting a business. Exactly one year later, to the date of that very conversation, ALI-KAT DESIGNS, LTD. launched its inaugural party in Pembroke Pines, FL. Alisa and Kathy had no idea what to expect, and suffered from all the anxieties of new artists showing their work for the first time. The response was remarkable, and so began “the business” of beading.
Alisa and Kathy, nature and animal lovers, find much of their inspiration outdoors. Annually, they make a trip to Yellowstone National Park, in Montana, to fuel the creative flow mulling among the buffalo and elk. They are drawn to semi-precious stones and are often surprised themselves by what they create. They’ve opted not to use materials that are damaging to nature, such as coral or bone. It is a process in which both can completely immerse.
Today, Ali-Kat Designs, Ltd. is exceeding all preconceived notions. Alisa and Kathy are involved, between Arizona and Florida, in home parties, private showings, festival events, art shows, and most recently, several retail establishments. They see the possibilities as endless, and with a growing clientele, aspire to have Ali-Kat Designs, Ltd. unfold as it will, at it’s own pace and with regards to the desires of their customers.
